SHOOTINGS SURGE IN JULY BY 177% IN NEW YORK CITY

New York’s 3rd Congressional District, August 6, 2020 –The NYPD just reported their July 2020 statistics this week that showed the number of shootings in New York City skyrocketed to 177% compared to this time last year. The data also shows the city’s total number of shootings this year has already surpassed the 776 shootings recorded in all of 2019.

“With each new week comes shocking new statistics about the rise in crime in New York. It has gotten to the point where we are no longer surprised to hear about victims’ horrific stories,” says NY-3 Congressional Candidate George Santos.

Instead of focusing on how to restore law and order to the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio has implemented harmful policies focused on defunding the police to appease his far-left base. In response to the recent action taken by the New York City Council to defund the police by upwards of $1 billion dollars, the Mayor simply said, “We think it’s the right thing to do.”

“Our police are demoralized by Mayor de Blasio’s policies, and they are being told to stand down in fear of how they will be perceived. There is a direct correlation between Mayor de Blasio’s actions and the rise in violence, especially with the dismantling of the plainclothes cops unit,” says Santos.

Santos recently conducted a “Back the Blue” demonstration at Eisenhower Park that drew thousands of New Yorkers in support of first responders. This gathering was billed as the largest pro-law enforcement movement in the country. Noticeably absent was Congressman Tom Suozzi, the incumbent in New York’s 3rd District.

“As a native New Yorker, it is upsetting to see New York City fall apart in a matter of months because of incompetent career politicians who are trying to dismantle our system and put our officers in harm’s way. That is why we must back the blue now more than ever to show our support for the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.”
